Is it only food that makes us healthy?

This is a good question. You see people who eat healthily yet can catch every cold, every bug, isn’t as vibrant as they should be etc, but you also see people who eat fried foods, high fat foods, burgers and seemingly everything deemed unhealthy, yet have never had a day off sick in their life and seem, for all appearances, healthy. How can this be? This SHOULDN’T make sense……….. or should it………

So what can help to keep these people healthy? It’s what we call Primary Foods. The nourishment in your life that’s not the food you eat. Primary Foods are the good relationships you have in your life (your partner, your friends, your family), the positive outlook on life, the job you’re happy in, any spiritual practises you have, what physical activities you have in your life etc etc.

These keep your mind happy and healthy and that manifests into a healthier body. I’m not saying the Primary Foods will keep you completely healthy, but they will help quite significantly to get you there. Add the healthy food into the mix and you’re on your way to living a happy, healthy and long life.

When we’re unhappy or stressed, one of the big hormones that gets released is Cortisol. Cortisol can be great for your body at times, but when you’re stressed for extended periods of time (unhappy in your job, failing relationships etc), we get a constant flow of Cortisol released into the body. Too much can suppress the immune system, increase blood pressure,  increase blood sugar, decrease libido, produce acne, contribute to obesity and more than just those. Clearly, this is a hormone that you only want in your body for as long as is needed. So, we need to reduce the Cortisol in our bodies, relax more, be happier, find gratitude in your life, see if you can improve a relationship (or is it a relationship you no longer need in your life?), a job situation etc, anything to relax and stop that steady stream of cortisol.

Health isn't jut about what you eat, it's about everything you do.

So, to be truly healthy, we need to not only watch what we eat and get some exercise, we also need to relax more and find more ways of being happy.
